PINASSE – WHAT IS
THAT?
A pinasse is a traditional, elegant, wooden and arched boat; it is a so-called “flat bottomed boat”, because it has no keel. The boat is powered by a motor.
Our well maintained pinasses are about 15 – 20 meters long and are driven by a powerful outboard motor (we always have a reserve motor on board, in case of emergencies). And we carry life jackets for the passengers of course.
The pinasse is covered by a woven, wood top sunroof, where a maximum 5 persons can take a seat to enjoy the surroundings, (the view), take photographs etc.
The boat has 5 - 7 (forward facing) rows of benches, with comfortable cushions, and in front of each row is a long table. Behind the passenger area is the kitchen, where the cook prepares the meals on the stove 3 times a day.
Behind the kitchen are the pilothouse (wheelhouse), the stock room and the toilet.
All round the boat is a wide foot plank and a roof railing attached, so the sunroof or the toilet can be reached easily and safely.
We take on board the most important supplies, but the chickens, the vegetables, the fruit and fresh fish (the famous capitaine) are bought in the villages along the way and from the fishermen. We have tap water on board and with that the meals are prepared.
If you want we can bring mineral water as well, you have to order that in advance.
The nights are spend on
the sandy riverbanks; the mooring place will be carefully selected. It is your
choice to sleep either on the shores or in a tent; tents are on board;
mattresses can be hired. You have to bring your own sleeping bag, blanket
or extra warm clothes; it can be rather cold during the nights.
