WHO AM I? 

My name is Alkaye Traoré.  I was born in Youvarou and grew up in Mopti, where I still live.  

In my childhood my father took me with him in his pinasse; from him I learned  the trade and the skills of navigation; he taught me  a lot about the river Niger, my country, its history, the tribes and the culture. 

In 1984 I became a pinassier myself, I studied and got my diplomas; since 1995 I am active as a guide as well.  

Several years I have worked  for Doctors without Borders, and also for Veterinarians without Borders and some considerable time now I am cooperating with European and African travel agencies and tour operators. 

I have worked and travelled in Mali, Senegal, Burkina Faso, Niger, Nigeria, Chad, Central Africa, Cameroon, Ethiopia and several European countries such as France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany and Norway; I speak French, Bambara and other African languages and a little English.. 

Meanwhile I have 25 years experience in accompanying small and large groups and I organize excursions and trips to both individuals and groups. 

For all the circuits which I organize, only local staff is hired (guides, cooks, helmsmen, drivers and attendants), because we support the idea of sustainable tourism (the promotion of tourism, respectful of the traditions and the local economy). 

Therefore, we support AVDY - Association of Volunteers for the Development of Youvarou. They pledged to improve the situation of students at the schools in Youvarou (my hometown).

 
My small family business is located in Mopti and we offer good service and reasonable prices.
